hi! i’m aditi. I tell stories about…

Humans, the places they occupy and the ideas they birth through words, visuals and more recently, using sound. I’m curious about all kinds of stories and am especially inclined to chase those that relate to education, health, women, migration, identity and technology. My research, reporting and writing is driven by a mission to connect a diverse global audience to voices that haven’t been heard, and to cultures and contexts that seem distant and unfamiliar. I specialize in enterprise reporting and narrative nonfiction writing.

since context is key…

I was born, educated and raised in seven different Indian cities, and have travelled across the Indian subcontinent and the U.S. as a journalist and writer. Currently, I’m based in San Francisco, CA. I research, report, write, consult, teach and coach independently with support from The Writers Grotto, where I’m a member. Not too long ago, I lived in Manhattan, my adopted city of two years right after I migrated from India.

Some of the earliest reported stories I documented in my adolescent journals are my favorite. These include a pithy anecdote about a visit to an emu farm, a joyful description of a teen birthday party in an aircraft hangar with retired planes and a more lucid note about the life of soldiers living in a bunker along the border India shares with Pakistan.

The storytelling continued to evolve through my adult years when I started reporting the news for journalistic publications.

I’m a former Wall Street Journal reporter from India and a recipient of The Teacher Project education journalism fellowship awarded by Columbia Journalism School in Manhattan, NY. Columbia University is also my alma mater where I graduated with a masters degree in science journalism and narrative writing.

Most of my education comes from incredible and diverse communities I'm connected to through my writing, my Buddhist and Yoga practice. I was recently appointed to the Board of Directors at The Writers Grotto and am a member of the Soka Gakkai International-USA non-profit community of Buddhist practitioners of Nichiren Buddhism.
